First Things First
So, here's the deal.
I like to read and I'm inviting you to read along with me.
I'm not interested in giving you homework or making your lives any more complicated than they already are. I'm interested in reading books that I hope will help me think and grow. And because my reading experience is usually enriched by conversation with others who have read the same book, I'm inviting you join me.
Because I'm a pastor, and because my faith has been handed down to me through story, I choose to read most things, and especially stories, through the lens of faith, religion, or God. My primary questions as I'm reading are: 1) What does this teach me about God?; and 2) What does this teach my about myself? Or, in other words: How does this story overlap with the sacred stories of our faith?
My hope is that this blog will become a platform for discussion. If you live in proximity to others who are also reading along, maybe you'll arrange an in-person meeting to discuss key themes or questions. If you live close to me, I may schedule a get-together or two. Don't do that or come to mine, however, if it's going to make your life more complicated; only participate if you find it enriching. That's why I've titled this blog "The Low (or No) Commitment Book Group." There's enough that's required of us these days. This group is just for fun.
If you're reading along, but you can't or don't want to meet in person with anyone else, then join me on this blog for some discussion. I'll post thoughts/questions/wonderings to which you are invited to respond (or not).
SO...grab a cup of coffee, curl up on your couch, and enjoy.
